The team at Blue and Red Games has revived fixed-camera psychological horror in Ghost at Dawn. In other games, when you die, you’re given another chance to restart by respawning at the nearest checkpoint. Here, you’ll need to count your lives against a flickering candelabra to ensure that your life doesn’t dwindle as easily as a flame.
What Is Ghost At Down?
Ghost At Dawn is an investigative game that puts you in the shoes of Ben O’Hara, an American-Japanese detective, in 1947. He receives a notice from a woman who is also Japanese-American asking him to search for her daughter. His search leads him to a hotel where you will need to investigate each room and collect and put together the pieces of this overarching puzzle.
You’ll also be faced with ghostly enemies that will try to stop you from moving forward in your investigation. These enemies lurk in the shadows where you can’t follow for fear of being engulfed by the darkness. Fortunately you can temporarily illuminate the way via matches; just long enough to run out of the room. You can also blast them away with your gun.
What Features Does Ghost At Dawn Have?
There are so many great features in this game:
Full voice cast – In-game journals and dialogue are voiced by real voice actors.
Great soundtrack – The opening song immediately had me hooked as a take on Where Did You Sleep Last Night by Lead Belly. It provides an immediate ominous tone to the game right before you begin!
Limited Lives – You will need to ensure that you can complete the entire investigation before the last candle flickers out!
Locked Camera Angles – These camera angles provide even more animosity to each level and a heightened sense of fear as you really never know what to expect next.
Multiple Endings – What sort of game would it be without the ability to have multiple endings according to the different choices you make throughout your journey.
Accessible Controls – While the game natively has tank controls, you can switch between that and modern 3D controls as well as use a keyboard and mouse or controller!
