I had seen gameplay for this game on social media and knew I needed to try out the demo for myself. Copycat, by Spoonful of Wonder, follows the story of an elderly woman who adopts an adult cat from the shelter. The available demo gave me insight into what to expect from the final release and I know without a doubt that it will faithfully explore love, loss, loneliness, and the concept of letting go. It’s both physically gorgeous and a touching, fully-voiced, narrative that’s sure to bring tears to your eyes.
What Is Copycat?
Copycat is an indie adventure game developed by Spoonful of Wonder. It follows the story of Olive and her newly adopted cat, Damn. Olive is an older, Aussie woman who seems to have a few debilitating health issues. However, that doesn’t stop her from loving and caring for Dawn, even after having lost her own kitten.
Dawn is unsurprisingly skittish at the idea of being taken to a stranger’s home; especially considering that she thinks she is a wild cat who belongs outside. Slowly, the two begin to better understand each other, forming a bond that can only happen between a pet owner and their animal.
After Olive gets sick, a stray copycat of Dawn infiltrates Olive’s home, taking Dawn’s place. Now forced outside, Dawn must learn about what “home” really is.
