Unraveling Dread and the Depths of Psychological Horror in Envelope

Unraveling Dread and the Depths of Psychological Horror in Envelope

I wanted to switch this up a bit and try a game different from the ones I’ve been interested in lately. In searching, it wasn’t long before I came across Envelope by Skaar Game Productions. The visuals immediately drew me in as they’re reminiscent of PlayStation 1 games. Not so much because of how the game physically looks, but because of the eerie feeling of loneliness that some of those games can bring. That paired with my ten-year experience working in customer service motivated me to hit that Download Demo button. The demo was too short, but long enough to make me crave more.

Envelope is a low-poly horror game that begins at a gas station convenience store. The demo puts you through the first part of the game, though it is unclear if it is the entire first part. Upon beginning, it almost seems like a retail simulator, with your boss telling you to get to work doing menial things immediately. After some cleaning, throwing trash away, and selling things to customers, the tone of the game shifts. What started out as a creepy but relatively unassuming story begins to change towards something more sinister.

The demo ends before much more can be discovered. However, all it did was leave me wanting more. According to the Steam page, we can expect there to be an open-world aspect in the second half of the game. There will also be multiple endings, which suggest that your choices and how you react towards people will matter.

What Features Will Envelope Have?

The final version of Envelope will have several features including:

  • Immersive night shift activities at your favorite job!
  • Multiple endings based on your decisions.
  • Freedom of choice in the open world.
  • An indie chic graphic style.
  • Strange characters that may or may not help you along the way.

Where Can You Play Envelope?

You can check out Skaar Game Productions’ demo for Envelope on the Steam store. You’ll experience the first part of the game though, as explained earlier, it’s unclear if the demo includes the full first part or just a fraction.

You can follow along with the developer’s journey on Twitter/X and YouTube, where they also share footage on another game they are working on: Fear the Phantom. Coincidentally, that game also has a demo that you can check out on Steam. Lastly, the developers have a Patreon page that you can also be a part of for even more, behind-the-scenes information.
